Tom Cruise honored by Simon Wiesenthal Center

He certainly deserves it.

On Thursday, May 5th, Tom Cruise was awarded the Simon Wiesenthal Center’s highest honor, the Humanitarian Award, for his longtime, consistent and substantial support.

In his acceptance speech Tom said,

Our challenge, ladies and gentlemen, is to make sure that we do all in our power to see to it that there will be no more Auschwitz/Birkenaus, no more Rwandas, no more Darfurs on our planet. That our children and their children may be free to live in a world where men and women are judged by their accomplishments and deeds rather then by their race or religion. That is why I support the Simon Wiesenthal Center and Museum of Tolerance. As Albert Einstein reminded us, “The world is a dangerous place to live, not because of the people who are evil but because of the people who don’t do anything about it.” And as he wrote in a letter that is one of the prized possessions of the Center, “Without an atmosphere of intellectual freedom and tolerance none of us can imagine a life which would be worth living.”

An artist inspired by Scientology, Jule Rotenberg

This is an excellent article illustrating the artistic inspiration to be had from Scientology. Scientology has a great deal of material on the philosophy and practice of art and aesthetics, and any artist would do well to study it.

Although sculptor Jule Rotenberg says her study of Scientology (“and thus my understanding of myself and others as spiritual beings, not just bodies or minds”) has affected her art, she considers herself an artist, not a religious artist.

“I don’t know what a Scientologist artist would be,” she says. “I’m very proud to be a Scientologist and would like others to learn about Scientology for themselves, but art is art. It’s inspired by life. To me this is the connection between art and Scientology, because any means of understanding life is invaluable.”

Scientology Assist technology accepted and praised by Pakistani officials

More good works from the Scientology Volunteer Ministers:

With heavy monsoon rains triggering catastrophic flooding, Pakistan has suffered the worst natural disaster in its history. At one point, approximately one-fifth of Pakistan—a landmass the size of England—was under water.

Today, the official tally of casualties is over 1,700 with another 20 million forced to flee their homes—more than those displaced by the 2004 Indian tsunami, the 2005 Kashmir earthquake and the 2010 Haiti earthquake combined.

The International Dianetics Disaster Assist Team gathered and started right after the floods hit with just a handful of men doing  assists and distributing supplies within a short time, the group expanded to over 1,000 people working in cities throughout Pakistan.

With its headquarters in Karachi, the International Disaster Assist Team is supplying and distributing goods and delivering assists to help ease the mental and physical trauma of the victims. Assist Team members live by the motto, “No Matter the Problem… Something Can Be Done About It.”

…

In order to continue to provide relief and assistance to as many victims as possible, the Disaster Assist Team is training others to apply the assist technology themselves. While going through the camps and local universities, the team has taught over 1,200 people to deliver assists—including fathers, mothers, nurses and even children.

In the four months since the floods hit, the Dianetics Assist Team has directly helped over 112,000 Pakistanis, proving themselves to be a bright beacon of hope bringing compassion and care to those whose lives have been devastated by the flood.

And this great validation for their tireless efforts:

As an official of the Sindh Provincial Government Ministry of Law said, “I really agree and am inspired by the motto of the International Dianetics Disaster Response Team and they have proved these words by their actions. I don’t know much about this Dianetics Volunteer technology but… it is really great to know and see that these volunteers are so effectively helping the flood victims. Our country needs this honesty and dedication. I really appreciate their humanitarian work. Thank you so much.”

While from an official of the Sindh High Court, “This recent flood of Pakistan is no doubt the worst disaster we ever had. Many people, government and NGOs, are working to help the affected by providing them the needed things.

“But the way the International Dianetics Disaster Assist Team is helping those affected by the flood for many months regularly is the most needed.

“Flood victims really need someone who can listen to them and their problems and the International Dianetics Disaster Assist Team is doing the same. This is appreciated.”

Meet Matt, a professional musician and Scientologist: Matt says, “But personally using Scientology I was able to be an artist, stay an artist, make a living as an artist and then not get sucked into certain things that certain artists get sucked into. It allowed me to decide, for myself what was ethical and what wasn’t. I can keep my integrity in, and as an artist, that was the biggest thing. And that I was able to do more of the things that I wanted to do and I didn’t have to do the status quo or be the status quo kinda guy, just be myself.”

Scientologist to Reddit: I’ll Respect Your Beliefs if You Respect Mine

This article is an excellent response by a fellow Scientologist to the current “party line” of non sequitur, hidebound bigotry against Scientology. Some particularly good portions of the response, applicable to probably 99% of the fallacious “exposés” of Scientology on the Web:

Where do you get the idea that I believe the ghosts of dead aliens inhabit my body and cause mental problems? What Scientology book did you read that out of? Seriously! What if I took Reddit as my source of information to find out about Christianity? Might come up with something similarly zany.

…

It is actually possible that if you didn’t approach every Scientologist thinking that they’re some wacko who waits on the top of buildings for the aliens to come get them, that perhaps we might all get along.

…

Your references cited are none of them Scientology. It’s like going to an Apple corporate wiki for information on the fantastic possibilities of Flash on the iPhone. Totally invalid. One of them is user-generated, one is a hate group, one is a bunch of disgruntled ex-members, and the other is a convicted deprogrammer. Not exactly valid.

…

“…founded by a science fiction writer…”: Yes, he wrote Science fiction. He also wrote in a bazillion other genres, and used the funds from his writing to finance the research of Dianetics & Scientology. I suppose he could have also tried to fund research by taking people on sailboat rides or something, but he’s a great writer and that paid the bills.

I am a Scientologist and a highly trained Scientology auditor. (Auditor is defined as “one who listens,” from the Latin audire meaning to hear or listen. An auditor is a minister or minister-in-training of the Church of Scientology.) My intention is to help people improve themselves and their lives, and achieve spiritual freedom.
